Whether it’s fishing, water skiing or getting out and exploring the New Zealand coastline, powerboats are New Zealanders favourite type of boat.
The powerboating courses I offer will take you through all the essential skills you need to be safe and confident on the water:

Courses Available

| RYA Powerboat Level 1 | To provide a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats | One day. Preparing and launching the boat, basic boat handling and mooring techniques. Basic rules of the road. | Minimum age 8. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certificate. |
| RYA Powerboat Level 2 | Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver | Two days. All you need to know for self-sufficient powerboating at a basic level. Course includes launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat. | None. May be preceded by Level 1. Minimum age 12. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certificate. |
| RYA Intermediate Powerboat | Able to plan and execute short coastal passages by day. | Two days. A progression from Level 2, introducing pilotage, navigation and boat handling techniques for planing boats on coastal waters by day. | Minimum age 16. Candidates should be competent to the standard of Powerboat Level 2 |
| RYA Advanced Powerboat | Able to plan and execute coastal trips including return to a familiar port by night. | Two days including at least one night navigation exercise. Includes pilotage, navigation and boat handling techniques for planing boats on coastal waters by day and night. | Minimum age 17. Candidates should be competent to the standard of the Powerboat Level 2 with a knowledge of navigation and chartwork to the level of the CBES Boatmaster shore based certificate. |
| RYA Safety Boat | Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing. | Two days. Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing. | Minimum age 16. Basic understanding of sailing boats. Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to the course. |
