Motor Cruising Courses
The luxury and ease of motor cruising is hard to beat and New Zealand has wonderful cruising grounds for people to experience.
The motor cruising courses I offer will take you through all the essential skills you need to be a safe and confident skipper of a motor launch:

Courses are available either on your own boat or on our vessel ‘Ambition’.
The price for own boat tuition is $500 per day. If you would like to take your course on Ambition, please contact me for pricing as it varies depending on the season and the length of the course.

| RYA Helmsman | Competent to handle motor cruiser of specific type in sheltered waters. | Two days. Safety, helmsmanship, boat handling and introduction to engine maintenance. | None required, but some practical experience is desirable. |
| RYA Day Skipper Practical | Can skipper a motor cruiser in familiar waters by day. | Four days. Pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and navigation. | 2 days on a motor cruiser. Basic navigation and helmsmanship. It is recommended that you attend the CBES Boatmaster shore based course before taking this practical course. |
| RYA Coastal Skipper Practical | Skipper a motor cruiser on coastal passages by day and night. | Five days. Safety, passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling and emergency situations. | 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours. Boat handling to the standard of the Day Skipper practical motor cruising course and navigation to the standard of the CBES Coastal Skipper shore based course. |
| MCA / RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence | Commercially skipper a British flagged motor cruiser up to 24 metres. | 8-12 hour exam plus preparatory tuition. Can be customised to you specific requirements. | 50 days sea time; 5 days as skipper; 2500 miles; 5 passages over 60M, including 2 overnight and 2 as skipper. Practical Coastal Skipper Course recommended. |
